CHELSEA DUO OUT OF ATLETICO GAME

Chelsea were handed a double blow on the disciplinary front during the Champions League last 16 first leg clash with Spanish La Liga table toppers Atletico Madrid last night following the news that midfielders Mason Mount and Jorginho will miss the return leg next month.

England international Mason Mount and Italian international Jorginho were both walking a tight rope ahead of the first leg in Bucharest on Tuesday night as they were one booking away from suspension. The two players went on to collect that yellow card thus ruling them out of the second leg on March 17 in what is a big blow to Thomas Tuchel.

Mason Mount was one of the best Chelsea players under the sacked Frank Lampard and he has maintained that status since Chelsea legend Lampard was booted out of his role as the Blues manager and replaced by Thomas Tuchel. The Chelsea Academy graduate was in fine form against Atletico Madrid last night as he helped the Blues beat the La Liga leaders 1-0 thanks to the stunning strike from Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman was able to give Chelsea an advantage ahead of the second leg next month. Jorginho also played his part in the win.

West London giants Chelsea are a different team under Thomas Tuchel though the German tactician has only been at the club for nine matches. Thomas Tuchel has been able to transform the fortunes of the club in those nine games. Chelsea were heading for a poor season under Frank Lampard before the club decided to act and they have been rewarded with the impressive results achieved with Thomas Tuchel in charge. Chelsea have won seven of the nine games under the former Borussia Dortmund manager including four wins from six games in the league. Chelsea are back in the hunt for a Champions League spot in the league and are in a good position in both the FA Cup and the Champions League.
