Chelsea manager Roberto di Matteo has said that he intends to use Daniel Sturridge more often than not this season. The future of the England striker has been speculated a lot in recent weeks after he has not been featuring in the starting line-up since the start of the new season.

In fact, Daniel Sturridge has not been in the starting line-up regularly since the arrival of Roberto di Matteo as the replacement for the sacked Andre Villas-Boas last season. After being a regular starter under Andre Villas-Boas, Daniel Sturridge found himself down in the pecking order following Roberto di Matteo's arrival.

This situation has only worsened in recent weeks after he almost joined the Premier league rivals Liverpool on a season-long loan deal, despite the fact that Chelsea did not have any backup to the star striker Fernando Torres.

Further, Roberto di Matteo has always seen Daniel Sturridge is someone who plays on the wing rather than in the middle. The player has only two years left on his contract, but the manager recently suggested that the pileup of fixtures in the next few weeks might mean that Sturridge could get more of first-team opportunities than he has had in the past.

"Sturridge can play more minutes, for sure. As long as he keeps training well and shows his qualities when he has the opportunities, that's the way forward. He will get chances to play and this is the case for all the players in the squad, as we are now in the middle of a period where we have seven games in 21 days," said Roberto di Matteo in a recent interview. Chelsea face a hectic month of matches in November when they will be playing seven matches in just 21 days including the league cup match against Manchester United.
