Christian Benteke has admitted that he is unsure about his stay at Villa Park

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke has admitted that he is unsure about his stay at Villa Park after his agent was clearly captured on audio stating that his client would like to leave Villa.

Benteke still has two years left on his contract that he signed two years ago. It is worth around £ 50,000 per week, but his agent made it clear that money was not the issue and that his client would like to play for a bigger team. Villa have only narrowly managed to avoid relegation in the last couple of seasons. The presence of Benteke was a major reason in the Midlands club staying in the Premier League last season.

The Belgian international scored 13 league goals last season and most of them came towards the end of the campaign. His goals against the likes of QPR and Tottenham were instrumental in helping Villa pick up some important points near the business end of the season. The fact that they finished just three points outside the relegation spots just reiterated the importance of Benteke. However, plans like Chelsea and Tottenham are understood to be interested in signing the player. Benteke has a release clause of £ 32.5 million in his contract.

"It's about my agent, he knows what I want and I’ll let him do the job. I don’t know, I don’t think about Aston Villa now, I did my season with Villa and now I am focused with the national team. It's important to play. If you want to be in first 11 you have to play in your club,” said the striker. “There’s a buy-out clause in his contract so it will be impossible for us to stop him if he wants to go. Someone’s got to meet that buy-out clause and if they don’t it won’t be considered because we don’t want to lose him,” said Tim Sherwood.
