Premier League side Arsenal have lost the qualification spot for the UEFA Champions League despite defeating Everton 3-1 in the final game of the season.

The Gunners finished fifth as Liverpool, who were a point ahead of them, won their last game as well.

This would be the first time long-time manager Arsene Wenger would have to play in the Europa League as he has consistently helped the team to the elite tournament in twenty years. Liverpool defeated already relegated side Middlesbrough 3-0 to seal their qualification hopes.

Pep Guardiola and his boys had it easy as they won Watford FC emphatically to maintain their third spot. Sergio Aguero scored a brace, and then Vincent Kompany, Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus added three more to complete the rout. The Spanish boss said he was glad that they could make third and have the chance to play next season.
Arsene Wenger said it is “annoying” but that he was proud of his players for coming out stronger in the last two months.

After 38 games, Chelsea finshed first with 93 points, Tottenham Hotspur gave a serious chase but fell off seven points. Manchester City finished third with 78 points, two ahead of Liverpool in fourth spot – the last spot for Champions League. Arsenal and Manchester City would play in the Europa League next season as they finished in the fifth and sixth spots with 75 and 69 points respectively.

United have a chance of making the Champions League if they defeat Ajax on Wednesday in the Europa League final. They are the favourite to lift the title but the Dutch side could stun as well. A younger side defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 in the last league game as Paul Pogba returned to score an emotional goal.
